Optos was founded 20 years ago by Douglas Anderson after his then five-year-old son, Leif, went blind in one eye when a retinal detachment was detected too late.
Routine exams were uncomfortable, especially for a child, which made it impossible for the doctor to conduct a complete exam and view the entire retina.
Douglas set out to develop a patient-friendly retinal imaging product that encompassed a digital widefield image of the retina easily.

You might be wondering what the "Daytona Optomap" is.
It is a digital, non-invasive way to check the back, inside surface of the eye, the retina. With the image, our doctors would be able to check for any diseases that might be in your eye that could otherwise not be seen. It also gives us a digital image of your retina to keep on file for future reference if needed. We recommend it for all our patients upon their first exam and every 2 years afterward.
